What’s on your i-Pod?

There is nothing better or more motivating than having great music when you’re working out. I almost find it difficult to train if I have left my i-Pod at home-ugh- there is nothing worse than looking in your gym back and realizing you have forgotten your music (or worse yet that your battery has died)!

On those days when I really don’t feel like doing cardio or lifting weights, the right song can give you that burst of energy that you need to get it done. Music also serves a dual purpose; as a detractor from those gym “talkers”- you know the type-the people that find it necessary to come and talk to you in the middle of a set.

I recently read in Self magazine that effective exercise music should range between 120 and 140 beats-per-minute. Music that tends to be in this range is typically dance music, but I think when lifting weights you can get away with any type of heavy metal-the loud, aggressive nature of metal can really motivate you to push that heavy weight. It all comes down to personal preference but my playlist is a mix of music that I probably wouldn’t listen to in my car on a daily basis-it’s a mix of dance, metal and rap. Songs that may not be on rotation at home can probably be great motivators in the gym-so experiment you may become a heavy metal, rap or dance fan after all (at least in the gym)!

You can google your favorite songs and find out how many BPM’s it has.

So what’s on your i-Pod?
