Strength…it’s in the blood-BADASS BASQUE

I really love when people assume that you MUST be on steroids because you can lift heavy shit. It just can’t be possible for a girl my size to pick up anything heavier than a 5lb dumbbell. There is actually an entire forum thread about my lifts and how the weights are totally fake….cause I really just have the time to stage such things.

Hey at least my daughter has my back:

The fact is I actually train hard, put my time in and just when I didn’t think I could get anymore awesome…..I come from a BADASS culture of strongman-the BASQUE people! Maybe it’s just in my genes:

Basque What?????

I really should know a ton more than I do about my heritage, but what I do know is that no one knows really where we came from. Our language is a language isolate and has no latin roots and is hard as hell to speak. Aside from that we are pretty much some strong ass people that can lift heavy while wearing berets!

side note: My Aita (dad in Basque language) is from Sunbilla Navarre, a Basque province in Northern Spain. I remember as a kid going to Basque Parties as we called them and watching some amazing feats of strength when the men would do wood chopping and stone lifting.

Basque Rural Games known as Herri Kirolak:

Most Basque people back in the day were farmers or fisherman, (mine still does farming and let me tell you his little ass can toss a bale of hay and put most 20 yr olds to shame) hence the origin of these rural games. The Basque government has classified 18 rural sports such as:

Wood Chopping-this was fun to watch as a kid.

Dragging games
Stone lifting-might I add that the heaviest stone lifted to date is of course by a Basque lifter named Mikeltxo Saralegui. He lifted from ground to shoulder 329kg, 724lbs…simply amazing (I’m sure I am related somehow-LOL)

Hole Drilling
Anvil Lifting
Bale Lifting
Bale Tossing
Cob Gathering
Churn Carrying
Cart Game
Scything
Tug-o-War
Sawing-another fun one to watch
Weight Carrying
Sack Carrying

Strength…what can I say-It’s in my BLOOD!

Ez da ogirik neke gaberik
