Not today…How to get motivated to get to the gym!

It’s really easy, especially at the end of a long day to just sit back on the couch and not go to the gym. The problem is that you can find yourself slipping into these lazy “habits” everyday. How can you get the motivation to train and be consistent?

Change your training time-

If you find yourself very tired at the end of a long day and it begins to be a chore to drag yourself to exercise, you might want to consider changing your training time. For many people, hitting the gym before work or before the kids get up is the best solution. It’s a great way to feel “energized” for work and you begin your day with a sense of accomplishment. As an added bonus at the end of the day when work and family stresses start to weigh heavily; the gym is done and you still have time to help your kids with their homework or sit back and watch your favorite program.
On the flip side; if you have tried to get up in the morning and just keep hitting that snooze button, you may need to train on your lunch break or after work. For me personally, I train at the end of the day. Not because I am not able to get up, but I find it a HUGE stress reliever to train at the end of my day. Not to mention it really helps me sleep better.

Remember your goal-

You started exercising for a reason; to better your health, wear that bikini, or become a better athlete. Keep in mind that every day you hit the gym you are that much closer to reaching your goal. Keep motivating images around you at all times, that may be Shape or Flex magazine or a picture of your favorite celebrity body….when you feel like sitting your butt on the couch, pull out your photos and get the motivation you need to keep you on track.

Accountability-

Tell your friends, family and/or co-workers that you have started an exercise program. Believe me, when people know you have started training they will be the first ones to call you out when you are slipping. The best part is that when those around you see you make a positive change you may be the one who motivates them!

How do you stay motivated?
