Are your kids making you fat?

So probably not politically correct to blame the kids for your weight problem……I mean you are the parent and you are the one buying the food and setting the example right? However, if you are like me, you don’t want to deprive your kid the joys of being a kid. If they have no health issues you allow them to enjoy ice cream and chips and Mmmmm chocolate-Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups-I think I would do anything for you. (This may seem like a parenting fail to some, but I had friends once they made it to college- who couldn’t eat anything as kids- gain about 40 pounds while going crazy binge eating all those things denied them as children-I’d rather teach mine moderation).

How could you deny this face……….

If I would allow it, my kids would have hot Cheetos for breakfast, followed by an otter pop or two and quite possibly throw back a candy for good measure (my son would actually have the nerve to ask me for a protein shake beforehand so he can then tell me he ate “muscle food” and now justify the need for chocolate). The problem is kids aren’t home all day or get busy playing and forget about the salty chips and other delectable treats that seem to only scream MY name.

Side note: if you don’t have kids the saboteur could be your spouse. Mine actually had the nerve to order a pizza while I was 6 weeks into contest prep for a show. He said he was testing my willpower! I had to remind him that I am not a ninja warrior in need of enlightenment before battle and that he could very well lose a finger as I snatch the pizza out of his hand like a ravenous animal.

This is what I imagined doing to him in my head……

FAIL TO PLAN THEN PLAN TO FAIL

If you are trying to clean up your eating the first thing people tell you is to get rid of all the junk food in the house. If you have no kids or a spouse on the same page as you I say go for it and load up the dumpster. But, if you have kids or a spouse that would be in protest over the pantry cleansing and let’s face it, you can’t just get rid of your kids or your spouse (well the spouse could probably go :)), you need to have your meals planned.

If your food is not accessible, when you get hungry it is far too easy to reach into that chip, cookie or candy bag (believe me I have done it)! This of course seems like common sense, but life gets busy and cooking up 5-6 meals per day for the week on a Sunday night can seem overwhelming let alone BORING as hell. I can find much better things to do with my time on a Sunday (C’mon True Blood is on HBO)!!

If meal prep was only this easy….

I wish I could tell you that meal prep is easy-but it often time SUCKS. So do yourself a favor, stop being a lazy ass and get your meals cooked! Your body will thank you for it later.

Mine is starting getting there (slowly but surely)……..
